Welcome to SpineWorks, thank you for
choosing our services.
SpineWorks consists of a team of professionals dedicated
to rehabilitating patients to an optimal level of functioning. We offer
a full range of treatment options, from interventions by a single provider
to an integrated team approach involving multiple specialties. We take
a comprehensive view of the rehabilitation process, identifying barriers
to recovery and using the skills of members of our interdisciplinary
team, individually or in concert, to address these barriers as rapidly
and effectively as possible.
Our physicians and physical therapists treat patients
to remove physical barriers to function while progressing patients
through an active exercise regimen designed to maximize functional
levels. Our psychological staff identify and address psychological
factors that are interfering with physical recovery (e.g., fear of
harm, anger, & disgust, etc.). Our case management staff works
with the patient, outside case managers, employers, physicians and
insurers to assist in a smooth transition back to productivity. As
noted, clinical staff are available to provide individual as well as
team services.
Patients at SpineWorks are taught self-regulatory skills
to address whatever functional problems may remain after treatment
and to prevent future difficulties. The patient's reliance on the medical
system is diminished, functional levels remain higher and ultimately
costs are reduced for all concerned.
Our name reflects our origins in specialized treatment
of back injuries. With our staff expansion, we now offer treatment
for a broader spectrum of physical disorders. Our continuum of services
allows us to address a range of needs, from the acute patient who requires
a simple course of short-term physical therapy to the chronic patient
who requires a highly structured, interdisciplinary program to progress.
Programmatic treatment occurs under the guidance of
our Physiatric staff, Dr. Lisa Barr, Medical Director, board-certified
in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Dr. Spear, a board-certified
Osteopath, who directs the Headache program.
Traditionally, physical therapy is based on exercise
and modalities such as heat, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound
and the like. In many cases you will also find that a Physical Therapy
Aide or Assistant treats you. At SpineWorks, you will be treated by
a Physical Therapist. Our therapist are manually trained, allowing
them to treat a broad spectrum of ailments, weather individually or
in consultation. We work to establish individualized conditioning and
strengthening exercises, stretches and home exercise programs to maximize
improvement.
Why is SpineWorks Different?
Diagnosis and treatment of underlying dysfunctions
When underlying dysfunctions are not identified and
corrected, muscle imbalance syndromes can develop. As a result of guarding,
compensatory patterns and over-use syndromes may develop. Standard
physical therapy may fail because it addresses symptoms and not their
underlying causes.
At SpineWorks, treatment is provided by physical therapists
extensively trained in manual medicine. The therapists use structural
diagnosis to identify underlying problems and provide hands on treatment
to restore proper functioning.
Customized Treatment
Our physical therapists are trained in a wide variety
of manual techniques. After identifying underlying pathology, they
select the most appropriate combination of these techniques to address
the patient's problems. Customizing treatment in this fashion allows
our therapists to restore functioning and reduce pain as rapidly and
and effectively as possible.
The manual techniques our therapists employ
can address problems involving multiple body systems.
